You notice the twolegs fishing in the stream with a weird sort of strong cobweb attached to a stick, they seem to attach prey to it first before throwing it into the water. Why would they cast prey away like that? And why does it seem to be catching them more fish! Would you try something similar and see if you get results?

Kuhli had been hiding in the reeds for a while, watching the twolegs patiently. Their original plan was to steal some of their fish, the twolegs distracted looking at the water's surface wouldn't notice if they were to snag a few from their buckets. But as they watched the twolegs, their behaviour confused, yet intrigued them. They weren't admiring the water, it turned out they had thin strings...like web, attached to sticks. At the other end of the web was something sharp, like fangs of a snake, holding small minnows.

Kuhli didn't understand why the twolegs were throwing away perfectly good prey and so they watched. It took a long while, but when the stick started to shake and shiver, the twolegs jumped to their paws and started... well, Kuhli wasn't sure what they were doing, but it sure was something! The web string moved closer and closer until it emerged with an even bigger fish, hooked onto it like on a claw! "How did they do that?" they wondered out loud, amazed. "Barely any work and what a huge piece of prey..."

Not that Kuhli minded the work put into catching prey, it was part of the fun, they were just amazed at the creative ways twolegs worked to not work. "Fascinating creatures." Kuhli's former owners were elderly, slow and calm - Kuhli had never experienced much of the twoleg world with them. In some sense, they were just as clueless as the other clan cats, unaware of most of twolegs' creations.

The cats of the clan had whispered the sudden appearance of so many new cats, kittypets from the campsite, both Pikestar and Russetfall's siblings. It was a surprise to see so many new faces. Admittedly, she was most curious about the twolegs; she hadn't observed their behaviour all too much, so the molly decided to stalk about the campsite and see what the strange hairless beasts were up to.

But, instead, she ran into one of the new faces. Creme coat and ruffled muzzle, they were one of Pikestar's siblings, so she heard. They looked nothing like him, but then again, the other sibling certainly did. She padded nearby, eyes flickering between them and the huddle of twolegs with their strange sticks with a spider's web hanging from the end. Coyoteclaw watched with muted amusement at the wasteful behaviours of the hairless beasts. "What a waste of good prey." The chimaera scoffed, glancing over to the other cat with a bemused expression.

Until she had to swallow her words, blinking in confusion as the stick shook beneath some unseen weight and one of the twolegs pulled out an incredibly sized fish. Coyoteclaw was gobsmacked, staring at the things with an utter confusion, finally addressing the other properly. "I ain't seein' things, am I? They used prey to... Get prey?" The molly padded to the side of the other, staring through the reeds as the twolegs did the same thing. She blinked hard before sitting back on her haunches, a thought crossing her mind.

"Say, uh, Kuhli, right?" She couldn't recall who was who with all these new cats, but that seemed about right. "If those things can fish like that, dya think we could too?" She hummed, curious. Prey was growing scarce, and while it seemed counterintuitive to throw prey in the water to lead fish towards them, maybe the bigger fish were just as desperate as they... Something caught her eye as she pondered, a sizeable grasshopper, fish would eat bugs, right?

She didn't speak again, squinting as she approached the thing not far away, swiftly snapping it up, the thing dying easily with one piercing fang through its abdomen. The molly spluttered once it was dead, though, never really enjoying the taste of insects, let alone the leggy storts. She tentatively picked it up again and dropped it at Kuhli's paws. "Ya' think a fish would try eat this?" She asked, Kuhli wasn't a clan cat, so maybe they had some knowledge she didn't when it came to these twoleg shenanigans.

Kuhli understood Coyoteclaw's loss for words - they felt the same. "Not seeing things, no. Unless we're having a mass hallucination, because I saw that too." A giant fish, hooked onto the stick's claw. Her next question made them think for a while. They hadn't considered learning the twolegs' ways, certainly not ones like these. "I mean... maybe?"

Kuhli's former owners had a pond in their garden, filled with fish of orange and white hues. They would feed them small pellets and the fish lapped them up - a little smaller than the grasshopper Coyoteclaw had caught. Kuhli always believed the twolegs fed the fish for them to grow, so they could eat them. Just like they left seeds outside for birds to eat, though Kuhli had never been good at catching those - fish seemed a lot simpler and easier to hunt. Was this, then, how twolegs acquired food? Coaxing prey with its own food and then catching them when they least suspected it?

"I'm not sure." they finally answered. "But it's certainly worth to try, I think. Though I'm not sure where we'd get a strong web string like they have."

Kuhli looked around themself, but all they could see was the reed stalks and they weren't sure how they'd get a claw, or something claw-like, hooked to the end of it. All of this was a bit too confusing for their mind.

The amount of kittypets lately has been driving Bayhowl crazy. Truly, they don't really mean any harm—they just linger by, doing equally as silly stuff as Twolegs themselves, and ask questions on occasion. It's their scent that irritates Bayhowl most of all. That's precisely why he trails after Coyoteclaw today; the presence of unfamiliar cats means that he simply has to see for himself if a Clanmate is in danger or not. His conscience would not let him forget it if he were to take the chance... even if the probability of a kittypet being present is much higher than a rogue or another Clan cat, that kind of gamble is not worth having.

...how odd it is to think this way.

Bayhowl scowls fast when he sees Coyoteclaw, unharmed, speaking to a now-famous kittypet. Or rather former kittypet. Kuhli's scent has not yet become familiar for Bayhowl's nose. He follows their gazes and allows himself a few heartbeats of staring a hole into the back of that Twoleg's head. For the first time in his life, Bayhowl decides he can't wait for leaf-bare. Those furless creatures will surely retreat when the cold really starts to hit.

"You don't really want to fish this way, right?"
he asks, full of disbelief at Coyoteclaw's curiosity.
"I'll stick to my claws and teeth."

There's something akin to disgust on his face when Coyoteclaw drops something at Kuhli's paws. Bayhowl takes that chance to actually speak with one of Pikestar's siblings.
"Say, Kuhli..."
he drawls,
"I'm just wondering. What really prompted you to come see RiverClan for yourself? To become part of it?"
There isn't any real reason for such an interrogation. Pikestar had allowed his sibling in, and that's just that—but nobody can take the opportunity from Bayhowl to find out more details.

She pondered as the cat before her spoke, fluffy tail thumping against the ground as she considered her idea. It wasn't going to be simple, of course, they didn't have tools or dexterity like twolegs, but it was something she was willing to hazard a try. Leaving her grasshopper on the floor, she returned to the reeds and plucked one between her teeth. The thing was too thick to use like the webs of the twolegs, but she had seen the weavers strip the things down into cords. Holding the thing between her teeth, she carefully tore the reed stem into thin strips.

Somehow, the wandering into the territory had become some sort of impromptu craft attempt. Attention drawn only by Bayhowl's sudden appearance, utterly baffled by the sight of the molly covered in shredded reeds. "Don't talk to me like I've lost my wits." Her ear flickered; it was strange, but she was curious. "It's not like I'm gonna waltz into camp demanding we try twoleg fishing, I just wanna see how this even works." Coyoteclaw cursed herself a little, being so busy away from camp most of her waking hours, the paws of a weaver would be useful.

"Weavers make reed cords for bangles and baskets- Starclan even for dens! They're sturdy if made well-" She picked up the grasshopper again and, with some fumbling, managed to tie the thing into the reeds, squinting before peering around, a thin stick catching her attention. She pierced the flesh of the grasshopper, leaving some sharpened bit of stick on either side. "- I'm hoping a little fish could bite the prey and get stuck!" Coyoteclaw held up the woven reed. It was poorly made, anyone could see, and honestly, the grasshopper probably didn't look even the remotest bit appealing to even the most starving creatures, but it was her best replicant to the twoleg contraption.

"Starclan knows if it'd work, but if those hairless things can do it, I'm sure we can figure it out." Her eyes crinkled with a grin. She wasn't one to challenge the norm, but she wasn't one to back down from an idea, even if she knew it was unlikely.

The molly padded to the waters edge, end of the reed in her maw, staring over the edge of the water with a tilted head. Water was murky, disturbed from twoleg activity; hunting regularly would be difficult in this state, regardless. Floundering uselessly in muddied water would just exert energy and freeze cats to the bone; maybe a little innovation wouldn't hurt.

Coyoteclaw reared her head back and cast the grasshopper into the water, watching it and the stick bob atop the water. She hummed behind the clutched reed in her jaws; she would have preferred it to sink, but then again, it made more sense that the stick would float... She sat there, leaving Bayhowl and Kuhli to talk, ear flicking as she realised she couldn't talk or look around as she waited. A fact that unnerved her a little, but maybe that was why the twolegs used sticks with their webs?

Then, something made her eyes shoot wide, water ripping on the surface, something nearby her grasshopper bait. Coyoteclaw held her breath, like that might benefit her. In the blink of an eye, something snagged on the grasshopper, watching the stick dip beneath the water, as a stifled smile slipped onto her maw, the joy just as quickly faltered, the reeds snapping before the chimaera could even react.

Coyoteclaw sat there with a broken cord and a sour expression. "Fish brains!" She muttered, the reeds slipping from her maw and falling beneath the surface. Her tail thumped behind her, frustrated, but her eyes narrowed in thought. "I gotta talk to the weavers if reeds would be strong enough for this." The molly was all but determined to get this idea to work, either through spite or determination, or perhaps a little bit of foolishness.

Kuhli watched Coyoteclaw, fascinated. They would never have figured out how to work the reeds into what she had created, but now, looking at it, it didn't seem impossible at all. With enough patience, they could probably do something even stronger. While the molly worked, Kuhli turned to the dark warrior that had joined them.

"I have heard stories of the clans." they began. "But I was happy, living with my twolegs. They were elderly, not like these ones, full of energy. Mine were old and kind and enjoyed the slow pace of life - I would have stayed with them forever till my last breath, were it not for their own health. They got sick and could not care for me anymore. Not that I needed them to take care of me, but they thought they did, and so, decided it would be best to give me to someone else." Kuhli recalled, eyes lowering to the ground. They would miss their old caretakers, no matter how much time would pass. "But I didn't want that."

Coyoteclaw has managed to completely finish the contraption in the meantime and the trio now waited to see if it was going to work. "We used to have a pond in our garden, I used to fish in it and even swim." Kuhli hoped the cats haven't heard of their first encounter with the RiverClan patrol, of how terrified Kuhli had been. Now, they were no longer afraid. "Learning about RiverClan seemed like fate and Brook and I hoped we would be welcome to join. And now, well, here we are."

It didn't take long and soon the reed stick shook with force enough to challenge a bigger warrior, or so Kuhli thought at least. "Oh!" they exclaimed, but soon their tail drooped as the cord broke, letting the fish escape.

"Let me try..." Kuhli quickly comforted the she-cat. They needed help with some of the tasks, but for the most part they merely repeated what Coyoteclaw had done - but instead of leaving it at that, they twisted and tangled another strip around the whole thing, making it sturdier, less likely to break hopefully. Kuhli then looked around, but could see no insects. Instead, what caught their attention, was a small creature wriggling near a puddle pathetically - a disgusting, pink earthworm. "I wonder if they'd eat this..."

It was time to try again, but now with a sturdier contraption, though most of the credits still went to Coyoteclaw for thinking it through. Kuhli had just made a few adjustments. Mimicking Coyoteclaw's movement, Kuhli cast the bait into the river, ready to wait again.

"So uhh...." Kuhli tried to fill in the silence. "Have you been part of RiverClan from the very beginning?"

Time seemed to pass quicker when the cats talked, because soon the reed tensed up, with something below the water's surface grabbing hold of the worm, pulling. But this time, the reed did not snap, did not break in half. Kuhli jumped to their paws, pulling at the stick, but the creature in the waters was surprisingly strong and Kuhli could not pull it further. "I need help!" they called to the other two with the stick between their teeth, claws digging into the ground. "Too...shtrong!"

OOC: Rolled a 17! Stick holds together strong but someone will probably need to jump in to snatch the fish, so we dont break this Fishing Rod as well

Watching the twolegs fish brought back bittersweet memories. Those of his own twoleg and their adventures. His own wasn't young, but he wouldn't say they were extremely old. The two of them were practically joined at the hip. He would spend his days lazing around while his twoleg fished. Of course, he did try his hand with catching fish his own way too. There was always water, wherever they went. Sometimes the water tasted salty, which he disliked. However, he still swam in that water. Sometimes the water was even warm! Those days where he got to swim, catch fish, and watch his twoleg catch a pile of fish brought relentless joy. I wanted too live with you forever back then...

He vaguely listened to his clanmates, watching a twoleg cast their line. This had once been a common sight. One that he cherished so dearly. He still did. For a moment he could picture his twoleg across from him. A kind friend. He could remember them perfectly. It was odd wasn't it? How he could remember their face opposed to the cats who were his siblings. Even now he struggled to feel a particular closeness with the pair. It's not like he loathed them. Kuhli was nice. They never went out of their way to intentionally bother him. Brook? It was complicated. He didn't hate them though. If he did... He would've avoided them fiercely. What he did feel was frustration. Many times he want to stuff moss in her mouth just to have silence. The endless onslaught of questions from Brook's end was exhausting.

Ears flick at Bayhowl's questioning. Green eyes tear their gaze away from the twoleg's fishing and to Kuhli. He too was curious about the answer. Brook had explained that the pair wanted to try something new, and that the reason why they picked RiverClan above all else was Kuhli's love for the water. The explanation wasn't much different from what Brook had told them. The only new information he gleaned was how his sibling's twolegs were like. It sort of helped? In understanding a motivation for leaving everything behind. Seeing as Pikestar himself felt drawn to places with water due to his time with his beloved twoleg.

The leader is unusually silent. Watching as Coyoteclaw try her paw as hunting like twolegs. You're not going to catch anything with that. If you do, it's pure luck. It's not strong enough. You need a stick. Not reeds. Or if you're going to use reed, you need a lot. He flicks his long tail lazily as he watches Kuhli trying to fish something like Coyoteclaw had done moments before. Nothing happens, not yet anyway. The art of fishing took patience.

"Bayhowl and Coyoteclaw have been here since the beginning,"
he answers. It is the only thing he'll offer in regards to the pair, as it's their story to tell Kuhli if they want to. Bayhowl wouldn't be particularly interested in sharing. If either of the two answered or had anything to add, he remained silent. Eventually there is a bite.
"Huh? Who would've thought?"
Instead of rushing to help his sibling he slowly sits beside them.
"That's not how you do this. Keep pulling and it's going to break."
I'm not sure if you'd be able to catch a fish with this. It isn't too strong. If we got a good sturdy stick and used reeds maybe, but it is just easier to use our own claws and fangs.
