The sun hangs a heavy gold, draping the falling leaves in burning tones. It drifts, lazy, towards the horizon's waiting maw, and Sunkit dreams he might catch it. He pulls himself towards it, hoisting his tiny body upon the nearest fallen stone - only to turn away once the sun scorches afterimages into the corners of his vision. It lights upon his mane of auburn curls still, casting all the edges of him aglow. He smiles, half crooked.

If he cannot hold the sun, perhaps he can dream he shines as brightly. "Cats of the- of all the forest! Come to me!" He calls in a self-assured squeak, clarion in the afternoon quiet of camp. "I am Sunstar, leader of Sky- Sky- or, no, of..." Two blinks in quick succession. SkyClan won't work, the warriors already talk about that one - and not with kind words. No, he needs something else to fit his skyward aims. "Leader of CloudClan!" Sunkit finishes, hardly skipping a beat.

An excited stamp of his paw signals the arrival of his loyal deputy - and, for good measure, he jerks his head in an even clearer get over here motion. "And this is Moonclaw, my deputy!" He sweeps out his paw towards @MOONKIT in a wide gesture, but keeps his gaze roving for stray kits to draw into his orbit. "We came down from our camp - our camp in the clouds - to meet with all-all-all the leaders of the clans! Oh, and the deputies too. Where are they? Come out, come out!" He punctuates the call to play with a laugh, light and tittering. And then, with an expectant gleam alighting dayglow eyes, "Do we have any news for the other clans, Moonclaw?" Surely she could come up with something good.

THUNDERCLAN KIT

PENNED BY EMPYREAN

Moonkit huddles next to the stone, shifting her weight awkwardly. Even with her eyes affixed to her own paws, her eyes strain against the harsh light. This is not her hour; she prefers to stay in the nursery until later in the day. That way the trees shield her from the sun and the camp is less busy. But she is lonely today, and does not want to be apart from her brother. She did not bother trying to persuade him to stay inside the den. Sunkit loves her, but not more than he loves the spotlight.

It was only when he motions for her to get up next to him that she scrambles atop the rock. To her ear his voice is clear, confident, and very, very loud. Her brother was born to play the leader, but he attracts far too much attention for her liking. Out of the corner of her eye she saw warriors pausing to glance at the two of them and elders peeking out of their den. If her brother had not asked her to be his deputy, she would have slunk back into the nursery right then and there. But she is honored he had wanted her to be his deputy. For his sake, she forces her gaze up from the ground.

Moonkit stared silently out at the crowed through her frayed fur for a long moment, then lifted her head a little more.

"Cloudclan... celebrates..." She hesitates every other word, and mutters barely loud enough for anyone else to hear. Her gaze is affixed to a point above the camp. Even though it forces her to squint, it ensures she can't see anyone that might be looking at her. For a moment she glances at her brother, then her eyes snap back to the sky. "Our... victory over Shadowclan. Sunstar led... our clan and... Thunderclan to victory... and together... we... drove them back into the swamp." Emulating what little she'd seen of Owlbark, she dips her head toward her brother as though to cede the floor to him and takes a step back.

Hopefully Sunkit would be happy with her performance. She turns her attention back to her own paws to watch her claws scratch the stone beneath her.

Fawnkit's ears twitch when she hears Sunkit speak up on top of the rock. She pauses, wondering, then sits below, intrigued. This game looks fun!

She is amazed by the kittens - how did they come up with such a brilliant idea? Fawnkit wonders what her own name would be in this game, when a genius idea strikes her - Fawnwarrior of course! Because she is strong and smart and the best warrior in ThunderClan! She purrs to herself as she listens to Moonkit- no, to Moonclaw, talk about their victory over ShadowClan. "Yaaaay CloudClan!!! CloudClan!!!" she cheers them on, genuinely excited.

Fawnkit, Fawnwarrior, then sits back down, looking up at Sunstar and Moonclaw, two kittens who would surely make a fine leader and deputy - just look at them. Confident and smart, the best qualities for a leader, in her humble opinion. Her tail swishes excitedely over the camp floor, her whiskers twitch and her mouth curls upward in a smile, excited to what would happen next. She is having so much fun already!

There's a certain amount of envy that pools in your stomach as you watch Sunkit explode into a brilliant character under the sunlight. He seemed to practically glow as he preened with his caw about being a leader, of what you weren't particularly sure of yet. He seemed to step into the roll of fantasy well, a natural for it in comparison to what you considered an awkward fumble when you had attempted the same with your own littermate. In comparison you feel a compassion for Moonkit, blending into the shadows and following a lead that you attempted to do with Falsekit. She seems to step into the role well though, maybe the two of you aren't as kindred of spirits as you thought. That envy isn't there for long, you're far too fascinated to see how naturals perform the game of clan. Warily you trail next to Fawnkit, gaze fixated on the pair as they perch, one in the sun and the other casted by his shadow.

"From the clouds" you whisper in awe, not towards any one in particular but it wasn't exactly quiet. It seems like fun, now that you understand what this game of make believe is all about. Standing up you nod your head with a small twitch of your whiskers. Anxiety quells in your heart, creating a steady thrum as you prepare to figure out your own allegiance. "I'm Faithstar" though you really don't want to be, your siblings aren't in sight at the moment to force into taking the spotlight. "...Of.." you pause, glancing at the stone that they gather at "..Rockclan." Maybe that was a little silly, but you guess it could be a plausible clan name. "I have something to announce... If Cloudclan is done" nervously your gaze flickers to Sunstar. Polite to a fault you hadn't heard the leader say they were finished yet, maybe his deputy still had more to add? You think they're supposed to announce when they're done anyways. Flexing your paws against the soil you sit beside Fawnkit, pressing your maw together into a thin line.

Leave what's heavy, what's heavy behind.
If your heart won't move, find a reason why.
If your tears don't fall, it's not that you're dry
You just forgot what it's like to cry.

.

It seemed... Fun. What they were doing, the laughter, the darting paws, the rustle of moss beneath their games... It all looked so light, so easy. Frecklekit's forest-green eyes followed Sunkit and Moonkit as they played, whiskers twitching in quiet amusement. Their voices carried across the nursery like sunlight itself, warm and untouchable. Would he have joined in, moons ago? He wondered that sometimes... If a younger version of himself, before everything his parents had demanded, might have bounded over without hesitation. Would he have been part of KitClan? Maybe. Back then, before he'd learned to measure every step, to read faces before speaking, to think before feeling.

But now... Was he too old? Not in moons, exactly... Just in the way that counted more. The inside kind of old. Maybe too grown. He wasn't sure what to call it, that hollow space where laughter was supposed to live. So he stayed where he was, half-curled and half-watching, the faintest curve of a smile tugging at his muzzle. A smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, but tried to. Leader of CloudClan Sunstar had stated. And then Moonkit was Moonclaw. They had just been victorious over ShadowClan.

Frecklekit's tail gave a soft flick as he crept a little closer, tucking his paws neatly under his chest. He didn't join, not yet, but his gaze followed every leap and twist, drinking it all in as though storing it for later. More voices joined the play. Fawnkit's bright laughter rang out, her small body joining the fray, proud and fearless... Part of CloudClan now. And then Faithkit, quieter but radiant in her own way, called herself Faithstar of RockClan. Frecklekit's whiskers twitched again, softer this time. The nursery had filled with so much life all at once. For a heartbeat, he let himself imagine being part of it, not watching from the edges, not worrying about saying the wrong thing, just playing.

Then he blinked, drawing back slightly, his tail curling tighter around him. Maybe later. Maybe next time. For now, he'd just watch. It was safer that way.

Curled up near Frecklekit, Echokit watches lazily as Sunkit steps forward and out into the, well, sun with Moonkit shadowing him closely. What were they going to do this time? To Echokit's surprise, it was something a bit more interesting than the usual games.

Slowly rising from where he was lounging, Echokit looked on with increasing interest. It was kind of funny, the fact of the matter was that everyone here was already in a clan, but playing clan was different. As far as Echokit could tell, it was a game where you pretended to be a better version of yourself, the self you... Wanted to be.

These made up clan names were kind of fun too. However, Echokit was wondering why Shadowclan was mentioned when everything else was made up. With a small snicker, Echokit actually smiled ever so slightly. Some of the tension in his heart unwound, enough for someone like Frecklekit to immediately notice without even needing to try.
"Psst, hey? Hey, Freckle. Wake up."
Echokit whispered, trying to nudge Frecklekit.
"C'mon, I'm serious. Let's just... Play a game for once in our lives. We can be Lightclan or something, you can be leader if you want. I'll be... Your medicine cat, Echospark, yeah. That'll be fun, right?"

There was a flutter, a strange, dizzying flutter that tore through Frecklekit's small body like a sudden gust of wind, lifting something inside him that had always been heavy. His forest-green eyes widened, bright and startled, as he turned to look at Echokit. His ears pricked forward, whiskers trembling faintly. He felt... Different. Lighter, somehow. The familiar weight that usually pressed against his chest when he was around his brother, the quiet tension, the constant edge of caution... It had softened. It wasn't gone, not really, but it was less. Bearable.

He swallowed softly, the sound small in his throat, and leaned just a little closer to his brother. Echokit's voice was sure and steady, painting their make-believe world in bright, glowing colors: LightClan. A clan of their own. Frecklekit could be leader and Echokit, his medicine cat, Echospark. The name made Frecklekit's whiskers twitch. He felt something bubbling in his chest, something warm, something almost like laughter, though it had been moons since he'd truly laughed. A purr threatened to rise, but he held it back, not out of fear this time but because the moment felt too delicate to break.

" Okay. " he whispered back, his voice barely above a breath but steady. His eyes shone like new leaves catching sunlight as he pushed himself up to his paws. He straightened, drawing in a deep, proud breath and for the first time, he let himself play. " I.. I am Frecklestar! Of LightClan..! " he declared, his voice cracking just a little with both nerves and excitement. " Our, uh... Our leader sadly just passed away. B-but I was named leader, and my medicine cat, Echospark here... " he dipped his head solemnly toward his brother. " He has helped me pick a new deputy before the moon, uh, goes high in the sky. "

He paused, glancing toward the other kits, his tail swishing faintly. " Victorystorm is not with us yet... But she will be. " For a heartbeat, Frecklekit stood tall, shoulders back, green eyes gleaming with that rare and fragile spark of pride. Then, with a soft grin tugging at the corners of his mouth, he dipped his head toward his brother once and then looked back to the other kits, namely the one that claimed to have beaten ShadowClan.

" Congratulations on your victory. "
