✦∘𓈒・ Hunting patrols are fun and somewhat serious affairs for Torridpaw, up until the moment where the tortoiseshell comes to the realization that they will most certainly not be bringing home any prey to their clanmates. Then, in the silence of the empty-handed trek back to camp, their mind tends to wander. Boredom wars with curiosity and the apprentice easily falls victim to distraction—today, it's thoughts of his elder sister, her accomplishment in becoming a warrior, and the very warrior who trained her to be such a warrior. By coincidence, sheer luck, it seems that said warrior is on the same patrol as Torridpaw, and on the walk back to camp he gains a golden opportunity to speak with her. Of course, though, he should approach the situation with care, with great subtlety and respect. He should craft a plan!

Unprompted, he turns to Magnoliapeak and asks, "You taught my sister to be a great and mighty warrior, did you not?" Plan forgotten, subtlety thrown like a white flag to the wind, Torridpaw's gilded eyes bore into the storm guard with unbridled interest. His paws hardly falter even as his focus shifts and his front half turns so he's walking in a side-winding gait, and his eyes do not leave the dappled warrior even as they continue on their path. "You must surely be the most resolute mentor in the land, for my sister is amongst the most stellar of warriors!" And yes, his sister is deserving of such an honorable title, in the tortiiseshell's eyes. "Will you impart upon me a sliver of your wisdom? Your skill? I could, in return, regale you with tale or even song, if you were so inclined. ThunderClan should sing your praises, but if they will not, then I shall!"

I SIP A TOAST TO NORMALCY

Not every cat on Magnoliapeak's patrol had been fruitful in their attempts to hunt. She hides her displeasure easily, focused more on getting back to camp and trying to reassess their approach before the next hunting patrol goes out. She is mulling over what she's going to tell Owlbark- how she's going to explain away a poor turnout before leaf-bare has barely had a chance to chase leaf-fall out with it's freezing breath- when Torridpaw turns inquisitive golden eyes to her. Magnoliapeak blinks with surprise. Torridpaw is the littermate of her former apprentice, Flickerdance, of whom she considers a hallmark of her skills both as a warrior and a mentor.

Magnoliapeak's tail flicks thoughtfully. It's hard to hide the amusement that finds its way onto her face. Torridpaw does a terrible job at seeming nonchalant. The words are both mirthful and ego-stoking for the storm guard, and she keeps pace even as he side-winds alongside her like a rattlesnake. What might have irritated the storm guard is easily swept aside as Torridpaw regales her endlessly with praise. Without realizing it, she walks with her head held high. "Of course I did. Flickerdance is a fine warrior," she replies easily, and then hastily adds "I would hope that your mentor could teach you to be like your sister. Surely not all of her skill comes from me alone."

Though, as Torridpaw has already stoked at the coals that smolder beneath the flame of Magnoliapeak's ego, she is unable to stop herself from indulging. "Of course, I would always be happy to teach an apprentice whatever they would like. What do you want to learn?"
