Her paws crash into the base of a tree, the bark scraping into her calloused pads still. Swarmswirl cringes as she stands, her choice of catch rushing away from her as soon as it is able. Fox-dung...! The tortoiseshell isn't sure she's ever had such a bad blunder, not even as an apprentice. To be fair, hunting in and around the gorge had been difficult as it was - but even the prey that suffered with them struggled to run from her claws. This territories choice of meals were plump (for now) but quick and clever. It's a startling change to say the lsast.

She hears rustling nearby, and through the boughs of a bush, she spies one of the leader's darling children. Vibrant green eyes dim as she looks on to the ever ethereal Starlitpath, named for the grace of beyond and for bright futures that should, eventually, come upon her. Swarmswirl lashed her tail and half heartedly mutters, "I would've caught it if you didn't make such a ruckus." As if the other warrior had any paw in Swarmswirl's failed hunt.

(˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗) a robin swings from the jaws of the star-studded warrior as they pad through the undergrowth, nose lifted to scent for more prey. the afternoon sun shines across their pale pelt, and the feline basks in it, rolling their shoulders as they walk. their patrol is around them somewhere, seeking their own prey, so the princess is happy to weave through the bracken lined paths with abandon. movement through the trees alerts starlitpath to a clanmate, and sharp sea-glass eyes recognize the familiar orange and chocolate hues of swarmswirl's pelt. as the warrior lunges for her prey, it skitters away, and she is left crashing into a tall pine. the pale point winces, sympathetic but amused as they move closer.

her clanmate raises her head, disgruntled as she spots her. a snide smile drifts onto the warrior's face, and she drops her robin, tipping her head. "if it'll help you sleep at night," she purrs, whisking her tail back and forth. "want some help with the next one? sometimes it's easier with two." it's a clear tease, almost goading swarmswirl into a hotter rage. the dilute point's eyes twinkle, finding amusement in her rival's misery. still, she would hate to see the tortie come back to camp empty pawed. "what'd'ya say, swarm?"

a shorthaired dilute calico point with low white and aqua eyes. short, thick fur decorates her frame, cream hued, swooping into a cowlick on her head. their face, paws, and tail are dappled with fawn and slate gray, broken through by speckles of white. a star shaped white splotch on their forehead offers them their namesake. eyes like ocean water, a deep aqua blue, pierce out of almond shaped sockets.

There's hardly a chuff of amusement that flutters off of her tongue with the other's input. She presses her lips together, instead, and rolls her eyes opposite to Starlitpath, her gaze falling to the robin the other had caught. Perfectly, at that, as if the tortoiseshell point couldn't fail at anything. Swarmswirl lashes her tail as she elongates her spine, stretching it out as if that had been the problem with her last failed catch. When the other warrior offers some help, the darker tortoiseshell furrows her brows deeper (if that's even possible.)

"I don't need your help, Star," the warrior huffs, standing up straight again. "It was just a fluke. I'll catch the next bird with no issue," Swarmswirl works to convince herself just as much as she tries to convince her counterpart. Her fur ruffles as she tastes the air for anything, and, with some luck, catches wind of a songbird not too far away. She smirks, nose wrinkling as she turns towards Starlitpath again, "Watch."

She pads away, first with an over-confident air about her, and then her gait slows and she pads forward on lighter paws. Her ears flatten to her skull as she slips beneath some undergrowth, just out of the pine princess' point of view. Almost comedically, a loud crash sounds, followed by incessant squawking. Swarmswirl launches out of the bush suddenly, a cluster of feathers in her jaw but perceptively no bird. "Run, run, run, run!" She screeches, and bursting forth from the foliage she left behind is a rather angry grebe.
