Flickerdance is positively fuming as she returns to camp, her very poise carrying a whirlwind of fire with it. She does not care to wait for the others who may have turned up at Sunningrocks—she is on a solo mission now, and she knows just how to fix the problem.

Or at least... she has a plan. Whether it'll be executed or not remains in Loonstar's paws.

Is Flickerdance being naive? She can't decide. She had just been made a warrior, and her more experienced peers no doubt look at her like a kit straight out of the nursery. The more pacifist Clanmates would no doubt call her too aggressive and too hasty... itching to jump into battle at the mere hint of a claw. But isn't that the easiest way to avoid getting your throat slashed open? Flickerdance can't imagine it would benefit ThunderClan to idle by and watch as the otters acquire a taste for their territory. She swear there was more in their gazes- something urgent in their whispers. Even if she had arrived to the scene a heartbeat too late, she knows what she has seen. RiverClan hungers.

Flickerdance walks forward three steps, turns abruptly, walks back- and repeats the procedure for what feels like hours. Loonstar is busy—talking to their council. Flickerdance may have dubious opinions on her leader, but even she understands that she ought to respect authority. Give her and her subordinates space. But a council meeting could go on for hours, depending on what they're discussing, and Flickerdance can't sit back on her haunches for that long. This needs immediate attention.

"Loonstar,"
she says eventually, refusing to back down now. She enters the leader's den, surprised to see the entire council sitting beside her leader. It's just her luck—they look about ready to leave.
"I apologize for the interruption. I have something important to say, if I may?"
Flickerdance's eyes catch Magnoliapeak's for a moment while awaiting the response. Once permission has been given, she continues:
"I've just returned from Sunningrocks. I know we have been peaceful with RiverClan so far, but... I'm afraid they might be planning something. A patrol was peering over to our side like they were about to jump over—StarClan knows what they would have done if I hadn't showed up in time."

Flickerdance pauses and lets it linger. Will the council agree with her? Or will they only hinder Loonstar in making the correct decision?
"It's not my place, but... I urge us to do something- even if it's just increased patrols. We cannot be caught off-guard before the frost arrives."

Thread open to the ThunderClan council! Speaking to @loonstar specifically, but no need to wait.

You walk along the edge of danger
AND IT WILL CHANGE YOU

Copperstorm moved with measured steps as Flickerdance entered the leader's den, his golden gaze flicking toward her in quiet curiosity. It wasn't often that a warrior interrupted the end of a council meeting, not unless something truly demanded attention. His posture straightened instinctively, the faintest flicker of tension rippling along his shoulders. Whatever had brought her here, she hadn't come lightly. When she began to speak of Sunningrocks, of RiverClan eyes glinting with greed as they lingered too long by the stones, his expression hardened. The mention of that place stirred something deep within him. Sunningrocks seemed to be a point where both Clans looked favourably upon... ThunderClan had been generous, sharing its warmth with their river-dwelling neighbors for a time of peace. But generosity often came with a cost, didn't it? And he had seen what happened when kindness was mistaken for weakness.

His tail gave a slow, deliberate twitch. The council den was quiet, the air thick with the weight of her words and the low murmur of thought that followed. Copperstorm's eyes lingered on Flickerdance, studying her expression, the flicker of worry, the frustration beneath her composure. He exhaled softly, a rumble forming deep in his chest before he finally spoke. " I don't think we should jump to conclusions... " he began, his tone calm but carrying authority. " We've no proof they intend to take what's ours. " He paused, though, glancing toward Loonstar for a brief moment before his gaze returned to the others gathered. " But we'd be foolish to ignore the signs either. "

For a moment, his gaze grew distant, remembering another time, another argument where blood had come before words. He pushed the thought down, the ghost of his father's voice echoing faintly in the back of his mind. You let your heart lead you, boy. That'll be the death of you someday.

Not today. Not anymore.

" Flickerdance has a point. I suggest increasing patrols toward the RiverClan border at Sunningrocks, show them we are vigilant. They cannot take what is not theirs... "

I SIP A TOAST TO NORMALCY

Magnoliapeak startles slightly as Flickerdance pokes into Loonstar's den. She's been sitting politely next to Hazelheart for the duration of this council meeting. She'd initially been excited for it like an apprentice might be- her first council meeting since being appointed to the storm guard- but she had quickly realized there was little to be excited about. It's mostly boring political and affairs talk, and though Magnoliapeak certainly takes all of these things seriously, she also wishes she hadn't gone on a dawn patrol that morning. So when Flickerdance appears, she is thankful for the interruption.

It's the news that she brings that brings a feeling of dismay to Magnoliapeak. She grimaces. Of all the clans to cause problems, she hadn't expected the soft-bellied warriors of RiverClan to be among them. She opens her mouth to say something when Copperdance cuts her off with an authoritative mew. "I doubt Flickerdance would jump to conclusions," Magnoliapeak flashes her eyes toward Copperstorm, uncaring for his calm authority as he tries to rationalize away what Flickerdance says she has seen "She graduated from her apprenticeship earlier than most because she's smart and skilled." Magnoliapeak sits up straighter, clearly proud to have been the cat to mentor the young warrior to the cat that she is today.

She glances to Loonstar and Owlbark. "Perhaps they are fearful of the coming cold ahead," she suggests with a thoughtful tip of her head "Sunningrocks is good for hunting. Maybe they're afraid of the river freezing." She kneads the ground beneath her paws thoughtfully for a moment, eyes narrowing. Had it been a bad idea to invite them to sunningrocks? To share the land however briefly? Why weren't they happy with the bounty the entire river brought to them? Sunningrocks is clearly on ThunderClan's side of the river. The entire thing makes her wonder if Flickerdance had overreacted to some cat running their mouth.

Magnoliapeak nods sharply "We should increase patrols, at least. Perhaps our markers aren't strong enough for RiverClan to get the message." She leaves her thoughts about the sunningrocks party unsaid, afraid that Loonstar might take it the wrong way.

"and this time, she won't be forgiving"
it's a matter of good fortune that she is not in such poor humors as to snap at Flickerdance for the boldness in which she asserts herself. the judgement shared is one the chocolate tabby would only deem as youthful paranoia, or an eagerness for a battle they needn't pick; Pikestar had never given any indication of a yellow-belly, of a false-smile, why would he permit his warriors to encroach on her territory now? it is an even more arrogant suggestion to implore her or Owlbark to adjust their patrols directly, when that is a decision that would otherwise go left unsaid; who is Flickerdance to demand any sort of adjustment of strategy when she is only just freed of Magnoliapeak's shadow?

her eyes bore holes into the young warrior, not once straying from her while Copperstorm is thoughtless enough to impart any sort of endorsement to a call to action from a child. perhaps it is no surprise that her own kin cannot summon up enough humility to hold her bias to herself- her attention flicks towards Magnoliapeak with an irritated flick of her tail. "Being skilled doesn't mean she is not still inexperienced... I'd suggest you not forget that in your pride."

her spine bristles with frustration to be implored of anything in the presence of a young warrior who has no place at this meeting. where matters of patrols and border security were a topic meant for limited ears. "Stop. Talking." the ThunderClan leader lets out a sigh as her gaze drags back to Flickerdance with a small scowl. "Your report has been heard and you are dismissed." they could discuss the specifics privately, as they were meant to have been to begin with.
