Even though he assigned Nightfrost to mentor one of his siblings, he felt it was unfair to entirely leave it up to the warrior. Nightfrost would have little issue with being shoved three apprentices at once, but Pikestar knew the man. He was the only one who stood on guard during the night when everyone was asleep. There were times where he had to force the warrior to go to bed. If left to his own devices, Nightfrost would work tirelessly. That is why he approached Nightfrost where he had already gathered his three apprentices. It was then he asked to take Kuhli off the other warrior's paws to teach for the day.

While he led Kuhli to the Ash Glade, he told his son to train with Russetfall for the day. Now alone with his sibling, he led them in total silence past the Ash Glade and to the river. Apparently you can swim. It's just that the River being fast is what makes things hard. He looks to his sibling. It's still strange to consider that we're family. You're practically a stranger to me.
"So... Think you can try swimming today Kuhli?"
He takes a step closer to the river, noting that it was as fast as usual. It would've been worse if he asked Kuhli to swim after it had rained or during the rain, since the river's currents would be even more daunting to them.
"It'll be bad if we wait much longer to teach you. The river is colder because of Leaf-fall and it'll only get colder when it's Leafbare."

Kuhli knew a day like this would come soon and they had been preparing, emotionally at least. Watching the river in their free time, getting used to its speed, visually learning to understand it. Dipping their paws in it every once in a while, to test the temperature and the speed of the flow. Slowly, but surely, they learned to breathe at a normal pace while looking at the current, their mind calm.

When their brother finally took them to the river, they were ready. To say they weren't scared would be a lie, but they didn't freeze at the sight of it, didn't refuse to come any closer to the river's edge. "Yes, Pikestar." Kuhli nodded. "I said I wanted to be part of RiverClan and I intend to keep my word."

Kuhli carefully walked to the river's bank, looking into the quick currents with wide eyes - they still weren't sure how a cat like them would not be swept away by the force, but they've seen Pikestar do it. If he could, then so could they. "I'm ready."

It was a good sign seeing Kuhli take a step forward. It was a far cry from the cat he'd seen frozen in fear atop a stepping stone. Even if this was quite different, considering they had a massive chunk of ground surrounding them. The river wasn't going to be as daunting, but he'll view this as a victory nonetheless.

Here they stood, two siblings at the edge of the river. It was such an odd feeling. Part of him wondered if they stood side by side long ago. However, he couldn't recall anything concrete between him and his siblings. There was little use in racking his brain for an answer. He remains silent when Kuhli gives their confirmation.

An ear flicks from their resolve. It makes him chuff,
"This is only the first step. You're in Riverclan, but being part of it takes time. You'll find your own place here and it might different from mine or Brook."
The words aren't meant to deter or belittle his sibling. It is only meant to remind Kuhli that the path they chose was going to be a long and challenging one. That they should not expect and later be wounded by a clanmate not batting an eye around them.

However, he doubted that many would be so cross with Kuhli. He's witnessed them talking happily with Pebbledream and Juniperpaw. With how eager and friendly they were… Finding a place and friends wouldn't be too hard.

The silver leader watches as his sibling approaches the river bank by themselves. He waits patiently for Kuhli. It is only when they're ready does Pikestar approach,
"Alright. Let's go."

He slips into the river with ease, never looking back once.
"We won't go far. For now we'll stay close to the bank. I'll be right here, so you can practice as much as you want."
He turns to face Kuhli.
"You can trust me. "

They watched their brother slip into the water with ease, as if it was nothing. And maybe it really was nothing - after all, it was just water, nothing more. A few heartbeats passed before Kuhli dared to move, but they didn't wait any longer than that. Any longer and they would have never dared. But Kuhli wanted to prove themself to Pikestar, so instead of being frozen, they stood up and descended into the water.

It was familiar, yet strange at the same time. Kuhli was used to water around them, their fur floating and their paws paddling, yet the water they were used to was just that. Water, unmoving, safe for ripples made by their movement.

Then again, the pond was steeper. Kuhli found it reassuring that they were able to stand on the river's floor, letting their muscles steady them. Of course, further into the river's center, where they wouldn't be able to reach the floor, would be more difficult, but this was a good start. The river appeared faster than it actually was and Kuhli found the speed tolerable now that they actually stood in it. Maybe it wasn't so bad...
