The land beyond the meadows of RiverClan looked hardly appetizing to the eyes. Even if the shipyard was a dingy, empty husk of what once lived there, Ivytwist could say it still felt less eerie than where he padded through now.
The white-patched tabby isn't sure why he left the borders today. His patrol had returned the camp, but he wasn't quite ready to return just yet. He knew Hydrangea would be waiting for him there, probably holding another gift the wrap around his tail or paws. He was not eager to endure and entertain his mates chatter, still wanting to take the daylight for himself while he could. Alone. RiverClan felt suffocating even without Hydra's insistent affections, but he knew it was infinitely safer than trying to live somewhere like this without them.
His ears flattened as he heard the distant barking from a dog somewhere north of him, but the trees were still too thick to see anything but glimpses of twoleg nests and fences. His focus on the barking had nearly cost him his nose, though, as he narrowly missed colliding into the dirt from a gnarled root breaking the surface. Ivytwist barely caught himself and loudly exhaled in his relief. Now was not the time for a twisted paw keeping him nestbound for a few days.
