He remembers everyone's eyes on him when he announced Frostmoth to be their deputy. He was well aware of the reason, but he had hoped taking a risk would mean well for their future. From what it seems his choice hasn't bitten him in the butt yet, considering no one has overthrown him or has attacked Frostmoth for whatever reason. Now, he doubts anyone in their ranks would outright kill him... Other than Smokewreath, but THAT! That didn't matter. What mattered now was speaking to Frostmoth about why. Why had he been chosen as well as a secret he'd been keeping from the others. For now anyway.
He'd taken the younger tom to the meadows. The sole reason was that he wanted to be somewhere nice to even have this discussion. In a very leaderlike fashion (not really), he lays down.
Pikestar is well aware of the weight that drips from his words. It is too much to think about a future in which more and more kits are born without ever having known the strife their parents had to endure. Nor would they learn the same rules he along with their parents had grown up with. Their new identity as Riverclan is all the kits would know. Nothing else would be seen outside of it and in some ways it isolated them from the outside. There were downsides to this new life after all, but everything in this moment seemed okay and that was enough.
The silence that passes between them is long. It steadily becomes clear that Pikestar is finished speaking. Now it is up to Frostmoth to decide to believe or question.
//@Frostmoth for you my lovely!
He'd taken the younger tom to the meadows. The sole reason was that he wanted to be somewhere nice to even have this discussion. In a very leaderlike fashion (not really), he lays down.
"You've... Been doing really well as our deputy."
Why wouldn't he admit it? He has seen Frostmoth in action and he while some may blunder with a weight on their shoulders, the younger tom has been taking it in stride. He still remembers how the deputy forgot to mention him at all when it came to patrols. It still made him chuff at the memory. He knows it wasn't done on purpose, but it was as if he were Froststar for a moment. Froststar. That sounds nice. That's if... Everything turns out well."I have to tell you something. I should have told you a long time ago, but... I wasn't sure how'd you take being deputy first. It WAS thrown on you, after all. And I'm sure you have questions why. I'll explain whatever you like after, so just listen for now."
He waits for his deputy to get comfortable or at the very least give him some sort of signal to continue. "I didn't pick you because you have experience. If I was going to pick based on that, then Adderfang would be our deputy. I picked you because you are young. You're not old. You aren't as stubborn to the older folk when it comes to change. Eventually the cats who know and lived in the Shipyard will be so few. They need a leader who can adapt to change and be open to it. And I think you ARE just the cat we need."

"Don't worry about making mistakes. Just... Don't die on us. That brings me to the something I said earlier."
I'm not sure how I even should go about this. I guess there's really no light way of putting it. And if Frostmoth becomes leader someday, it would benefit him to know in the long run. Auugghhh here we go. "I have nine lives. I can die and come back at least eight times. Every leader is given nine lives, soooo I'll be here for awhile. I'm more than willing to lose my lives for our clan and for you while you learn. Someday I'll be gone. And then, It'll be your turn to have nine lives."
