Ice stretched as she crawled out of her nest. She fluffed out her pelt trying to shake out a bit of the hay that had been stuck in it. There was a bitter cold air that was blowing in through the crack in the door of the barn making her cold to her core. "I wish those mouse brained twolegs would shut the door." She grumbled to herself, as she quietly made her way down from the hay loft. Digging her claws into the wooden beam as she did so to keep herself from falling off. Finally she leaped down into the soft hay on the ground below.

Padding out into the opening of the barn she peered around looking for someone to talk to or something to do. Boredom clawed at her making her feel even more impatient and grumpy than she normally was. Twitching her tail impatiently she sat down and yowled really loudly, hoping to wake up some of the other barn cats.

you are not always to know where you are headed

The silver tabby shivered, his fur fluffing up against the biting chill. Wide eyes darted toward his sister as he let out an exaggerated groan. " It's too cold... " he grumbled, scrunching his nose in distaste. With a theatrical flair, he stuck his tongue out toward the barn door. " They should be CLOSING doors, not leaving them open! Think of the poor animals! " he added with a dramatic huff, licking at his shoulder as though to shield himself from the frost.

His ears perked up suddenly at the sound of Ice's loud yowling, and he rolled his eyes with a good-natured grin. " Pfff, I can hear ya! " he called back, squinting one eye shut in mock annoyance. The silver tabby hopped down from the stack of hay bales, his paws landing with a soft thud on the barn floor. He shook out his fur, still fluffed up against the cold. " Honestly, Ice... " he said with a dramatic flick of his tail. " If we sit around much longer, we're going to freeze into little statues. Then we'll just be decorations for the barn. "

He paused to swat at a stray piece of hay, watching it flutter to the ground. " Maybe we should find something to do that doesn't involve sitting in the draftiest spot possible. Like chasing mice. Or wrestling. Or something that gets us moving so I don't have to complain about this cold every five minutes. Your choice. "

His turquoise eyes sparkled with mischief as he looked at his sister, his earlier grumbling melting away. " But if we're going outside, you're leading. That way, if we freeze, it's your fault. " He grinned, clearly more amused by his own joke than he should be.

Nestled within the little pile of hay Warren had claimed, cozied up and insulated, he almost didn't wake up to the calling yowl of the other barncat. Stars, it's good that he did! In his half-awake state, he thinks he hears something about chasing mice.. or wrestling.. or going outside. He would've really missed out, huh?

The kitten's awake and on his paws soon enough, trotting towards the pair with a wide smile and buzzing energy.
"Can I come with?"
the boy chirps as he approaches, taking a seat somewhere next to them while his tail-tip twitches with excitement.
"I'm - I'm a really good mouser! I'm not very strong, though.."
He'd lose a wrestle, no doubt. Warren's smile dwindles for just a moment, then beams up again.
"And - and I love exploring! If we go outside.. I'll be good, I promise!"

    WARREN — HE/HIM ・ 4 MOONS ・ KITTEN ; BARNCAT ・ PENNED BY IXORA
a happy-go-lucky kitten with a big heart and an optimistic outlook.

Ashen had been trying to sleep, successfully so until this three kits woke him up from his wonderful dream. One of them in particular who had started to yowl for attention!. Wiith a huff and puff the kit tried to block them out with covering his ears but they just kept on talking, and talking!. Uuuugh!. He started to pull at his own ears like tearing his own ears apart would spare him from their ramblings. That was until he couldn't stand listening to them any more!. He had been patient enough after their rude awakening.

Ashen would huff as he pulled the paws down from his ears and was about to hiss something at them until the suggestion to leave the barn was being discussed between the three. Ashen would twitch his nose not even hesitating to jump into that conversation.
" Then, hurry up and leave before i call for mommy!."
He said with narrowed eyes, like his threat of calling his mom over was gonna scare the three of them.

Why on earth they wanted to leave in the first place, to go outside was beyond his understanding because personally he liked it in here in the barn. It was warm (usually) and cozy, and safe, a world he was familliar with. Whatever went on out there was an unfamilliar place to him and not something he was curious over to explore. Ashen was perfectly happy to stay inside this big spaceful den for the rest of his life. There was always things to do in here. He never got bored, not like the rest. But if Ice, Pebble and Warren wanted to go outside and get eaten by monsters he was not gonna stop them. But they better not come back until he had finished sleeping!.

He was in a hurry to fall asleep again to return back to his wonderful dream where feathers rained down from the sky...He liked that dream alot.

A pair of curious green eyes peered out from the barn. The other kits were causing quite a fuss, their squeals and yowls echoing across the open fields. It was a wonder their mothers hadn't cuffed their ears for being so loud.

They're going to wake the whole barn.

She hesitated, tossing a quick glance over her shoulder toward the loft. No sign of her mother emerging from the layers of hay where she likely slept, buried deep to escape the bitter chill. With no one to tell her she couldn't, Meadow took a breath and stepped out into the cold.

The icy air nipped at her paws, and for a moment, she hesitated. She shifted her weight, glancing back at the barn, but then set out with a rekindled determination. If they're out there, someone's got to make sure they get home in one piece. The tortoiseshell weaved through frostbitten grass with deliberate strides.

At first, she watched from a distance, observing their bickering. Then, with a flick of her tail, she padded closer. "Is that your way of saying you're too scared?" Meadow twitches her whiskers at Ashen, merging herself with their group as if she had always been there. "Its okay, y'know. I go on adventures lots and it's not that bad." Her eyes sparkle with a mixture of excitement and curiosity as she studies each new face—new friends—at least for a little while... She didn't linger on any one kit too long, already reminding herself not to get too comfy. It was better that way, incase mama didn't want her playing with them no more.

I'm on top of the world, 'ey, waiting on this for a while now, paying my dues to the dirt

" Ashen, come on! " Pebble called out, his voice bright with excitement. He stuck his tongue out at the grumpy young kit before grinning mischievously. " You should come with us one of these days! Maybe we'll even find some nice treasure for you, like more feathers! You like feathers, right? Bet we could find some really nice ones outside! " His tail flicked eagerly as he bounced on his paws. He knew Ashen was a sucker for feathers... He had such a deep fascination for the feathery things.

But when Ashen didn't immediately budge, Pebble rolled his eyes with an exaggerated sigh. " Rolling in your nest and sulking at us for making noise won't get you more pretties, you know. " he added, wiggling in place before turning to Meadow as she joined in. Hearing her words made Pebble bite back a giggle, pressing a paw to his snout as he peered over at the pretty she-cat beside him. " Pfffbbtt... See? She's right! Adventuring isn't scary, it's fun! " he declared, turning to his sister with an eager nod. " A group of three sounds perfect! But if Ashen does want to come, a group of four isn't bad either! "

Pebble then turned back to Meadow, flashing her a pearly grin. " Oh! I'm Pebble, by the way! That's my sister, Ice! And then we have Mama Alder! But faer not here right now. " His chest puffed out proudly as he introduced his family, his excitement bubbling over.

If Ice's yowl didn't catch Clover's attention, the rapidly growing gathering of younger cats definitely would. She poked her head out of her nest - if you could call a mass of hay in a more out-of-the-way corner of the barn a true nest - and tentatively approached the group. She'd heard bits of what they were saying, something about mousing and an adventure... Maybe they'd let her join in? She'd rather be outside than cooped up in the barn, anyway...

"Do y'all have room for one more in your adventure?" She asked quietly, shaking a few broken pieces of hay out of her fur. She didn't feel the drafts as much as her shorter-furred barnmates, but with her denser fur also came more opportunity for things to get stuck in it. Hay, dirt, even grass and mud when it had been warmer... all of it meant her fur required so much maintenance. Sometimes it was easier to just leave it messy and ungroomed, at least if they were going to be going outside and getting dirty anyway.

"Decisions made by Twolegs are never logical,"
comes the retort with a snort from a corner of the barn,
"I've stopped trying to make sense of them."

He's stopped trying to make sense of his own antics, too; Peony's whiskers twitch with curiosity as he notices Ice slipping away. Time and time again, he finds himself in others' orbit — for a good stretch of time, the only one on his radar has been Petal, and his brother had not lost priority... but now that they have so many cats around them, it's easy to get involved. Ice complains about feeling cold and then promptly walks out into the freezing cold; Peony might as well see what's up with all that.

Long ears move sharply backwards as a horrid yowling hits them.
"Will you stop that? Do you want to wake up the entire barn?"

Her plan comes to fruition. Peony sideeyes her sibling, who is evidently in complete support of her singing. Pebble does make a good point though; if they're all gathering here, they may as well make themselves useful. A group hunting session doesn't sound half bad... provided everyone remains on their best behavior and doesn't make a ruckus when they're supposed to avoid alerting the mice. Their numbers quickly grow — the grumpy Ashen stays out of it, Warren and Meadow hop in on the opportunity without wasting a beat, and Clover is awfully polite. Whatever for, Peony doesn't really get.

"Of course we do. The more, the merrier."
His tail flicks; at first glance, it looks like something done out of irritation, but the nod in lieu of a hello thrown Clover's way betrays that it is merely supposed to be invitation. He, himself, had not asked for permission. Most of the barn's inhabitants get along well enough.
